Basic Giant Beaver Info

There were two known species of giant beaver:  Castoroides ohioensis and Castoroides leiseyorum.  While leiseyorum has only been found in Florida, ohioensis roamed much of North America.  With a length of nearly ten feet and a weight of about 250 lbs, the giant beaver was one of the largest rodents to live (few rodents were larger).
The giant beaver would have had a narrower tail and thicker incisors than its modern day relative and may have been less aquatic.  There is no clear evidence pointing toward giant beaver lodges.
There are several Native American stories about giant beavers, however, it is not clear whether these stories relate to Castoroides or not.
